Permanent Pipe Rehabilitation Without Excavation
Cracked joints, root intrusion, and collapsed clay or pitch fibre drains no longer require expensive trench digging. M.R. Drains installs structural epoxy inversion sleeves that create a new, joint-free pipe inside your damaged drain.
Trenchless Engineering
Drain Lining Using No-Dig Technology
We install a brand-new, structurally independent pipe inside your existing damaged network. Fabricated with materials similar to GRP (glass-reinforced plastic), the finished sleeve exceeds the structural integrity of original clay or concrete pipes.
The Inversion Process
The flexible liner is inflated and inverted inside the host pipe using controlled air or water pressure. This forces the resin-saturated sleeve tightly against damaged clay, cast iron, or pitch fibre walls. Once cured, it forms a rock-solid, impenetrable composite with only a ~6% bore reduction, significantly outweighed by the mirror-smooth flow velocity.
Specialized Resin Systems
Chemical selection dictates long-term performance. We deploy three specialized activating catalysts vacuum-impregnated into high-density felt:
- Silicate Resin: Rapid-cure formulation engineered for localized patch repairs.
- Epoxy Resin: Maximum bond strength, zero odor, and supreme resistance to aggressive ground chemicals.
- Polyester Resin: High-yield durability engineered for extended municipal sewer runs.
Sewer Capabilities & Robotics
Engineered for ground sewers, rainwater downpipes, and commercial conduits from 75mm up to 300mm. If incoming branch junctions are covered during relining, our operators deploy remote-controlled robotic milling cutters to cleanly reopen every branch line flush from inside.

Drain Lining & Relining FAQs
Learn how our trenchless no-dig technology restores broken, leaking, and root-damaged pipes without destructive excavation.
What is drain relining and how does it work?
Drain relining (also known as CIPP or cured-in-place pipe) is a method of repairing cracked, fractured, or root-invaded pipes without digging trenches. A flexible sleeve saturated with commercial-grade epoxy or silicate resin is inserted into the pipe through an existing manhole. Once cured, it forms a rock-hard, seamless pipe-within-a-pipe with a design life exceeding 50 years.
Will lining reduce the diameter and water flow of my drain?
No. While the lining reduces the internal bore marginally (typically between 3mm and 4.5mm), the cured resin has an ultra-smooth, low-friction glassy surface. This significantly reduces hydraulic drag compared to old vitreous clay or corroded cast iron, so flow rate and waste velocity actually improve.
What is the difference between a full reline and a patch repair?
A full reline covers an entire pipe run between two inspection manholes (up to 50+ metres). A patch repair (or localised structural sleeve) is used when the damage is limited to an isolated area—such as a single cracked joint, a small puncture, or root penetration—fixing the problem cleanly at a lower cost without treating undamaged pipe.
Can deformed or blistered pitch fibre pipes be relined?
Yes. If your 1960s pitch fibre drains have warped, gone oval, or developed blisters, our engineers first use mechanical Picote rotary re-rounding tools to restore the pipe's circular shape. Once re-rounded, a structural epoxy liner is inverted immediately, permanently reinforcing the pipe walls and preventing collapse.
How long does installation take before we can use the water again?
Most domestic drain lining and patch installations are completed in a single visit. Once the sleeve is positioned and inflated, curing takes between 2 to 4 hours depending on the resin type and pipe diameter. Facilities and water supplies are typically back in full normal use that same afternoon.
